- **Logitech MX Keys S** — consensus 83/100 (high confidence, 7 rated reviews). Survey: https://datadesign.one/computer-keyboards/logitech-mx-keys-s/
- **Logitech MX Mechanical** — consensus 75/100 (high confidence, 8 rated reviews). Survey: https://datadesign.one/computer-keyboards/logitech-mx-mechanical/

Each score summarises that product's own reception, computed from its own set of rated reviews;
the two are not a head-to-head result.

**Bottom line.** Get the Logitech MX Keys S if you want the quieter, cheaper board: RTINGS calls its scissor switches quieter than the Mechanical's, and Logitech's page shows a lower price for it on either reading of its pricing [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s][@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Get the Logitech MX Mechanical if you want low-profile mechanical switches in three types and a longer rated battery life: Logitech rates it at 10 months with the backlight off against five for the Keys S [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs][@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs].

## What actually differs

Both boards are full-size, wireless, low-profile Logitech keyboards that pair with up to three devices, and RTINGS describes them together as wireless full-size keyboards with low-profile designs [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s]. The core difference is the mechanism under the keys. The Logitech MX Keys S uses scissor switches, which Logitech's own specification lists as "Scissor Keys" [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs]. The Logitech MX Mechanical offers a choice of three low-profile mechanical switch types, which Tom's Guide lists as clicky, tactile and linear [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical][@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical].

Almost every other difference follows from that choice or from price. One caution applies to the whole page: the only direct comparisons we found are in two of the sources [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s][@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s]. RTINGS' MX Keys S page includes a short comparison with the MX Mechanical on switches and noise [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Trusted Reviews' MX Keys S review contrasts its typing with the MX Mechanical's in one sentence [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Where a dimension below has no such comparison, the page sets each keyboard's separate evidence side by side and says the evidence does not settle the question.

## Which is quieter?

RTINGS makes the one direct comparison available. It says the MX Mechanical uses mechanical switches and the MX Keys S has tactile scissor switches, which are quieter [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s]. RTINGS also describes the MX Keys S as very quiet in operation compared with mechanical boards in general [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s].

The remaining evidence covers each board alone. TechGearLab measured an average of 35 dBA of typing noise on the MX Keys S [@techgearlab-logitech-mx-keys-s], and Windows Central calls its typing action responsive, tactile and quiet [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s]. For the MX Mechanical, PCWorld calls the keyboard very noisy and blames the rattle of the frame and suspension, not the switches [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical]. How-To Geek measured typing noise in the low to mid 60 dB range, consistent with a Brown switch [@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Tom's Guide, by contrast, found the tactile switches notably quieter than a typical Brown [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical]. The dBA and dB figures were published separately by TechGearLab and How-To Geek with different methods, so this page does not subtract one from the other [@techgearlab-logitech-mx-keys-s][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: MX Keys S**, on RTINGS' direct comparison. The MX Mechanical's noise is described inconsistently by PCWorld and Tom's Guide [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical][@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical].

## Which feels better to type on?

RTINGS compares the two on switch type and noise, not on typing feel [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Each board draws praise for its own feel, and the praise describes different things.

For the MX Keys S, Tom's Guide says the concave keycaps reduce mistypes and the scissor switches give good tactile feedback [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s]. AppleInsider calls the feel middle-of-the-road, neither forceful like a mechanical board nor squishy [@appleinsider-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Digital Camera World describes it as springy and slightly spongy [@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Trusted Reviews, which prefers mechanical keyboards in general, says the tactility impressed it given the short travel [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s].

For the MX Mechanical, the verdicts split. Laptop Mag calls it "a good keyboard that is a joy to type on" and recorded 91 wpm at 98% accuracy [@laptopmag-logitech-mx-mechanical]. CG Magazine, coming from Cherry MX switches, calls the typing experience excellent [@cgmagazine-logitech-mx-mechanical]. How-To Geek lists switch feel and keycap wobble as cons and found the rigid switches led to frequent typos [@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Tom's Guide says the tactile bump is less pronounced than a Cherry Brown's and may feel squishy to someone used to full-height Browns [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical].

Trusted Reviews calls the MX Mechanical's switches a major upgrade on the original MX Keys' scissor-actuated ones, but that comparison is against the original MX Keys, not the MX Keys S [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Its MX Keys S review does name the MX Mechanical directly: the Keys S typing experience is "not as precise and sharp" [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s] as that of a mechanical keyboard such as the MX Mechanical, though still comfortable. That is a single outlet's view, from a reviewer who says elsewhere in the same review that they prefer mechanical keyboards over membrane [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Trusted Reviews also notes that wired mechanical keyboards at the MX Keys S price may type better [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s].

**Verdict: the sources lean slightly to the MX Mechanical, but only on one outlet's say-so.** Trusted Reviews calls mechanical typing such as the Mechanical's more precise and sharp [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s], while How-To Geek and Tom's Guide raise feel complaints about the Mechanical [@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical][@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical], and no other outlet compares the two. A buyer who wants a mechanical feel has to choose the MX Mechanical; a buyer who wants a laptop-like feel is better served by the MX Keys S.

## Which costs less?

Manufacturer prices can be compared as arithmetic. Both Logitech US pages showed their prices under a Special Pricing label as of October 25, 2026, so whether each figure is a list or a sale price is not clear. The MX Keys S page showed $119.99 and $129.99 beside a "$10.00 off" marker [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s]. The MX Mechanical page showed $179.99 within a $149.99 to $179.99 range, without saying which variant carries which price [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Comparing $129.99 with $179.99 gives a $50 gap, and comparing $119.99 with $179.99 gives $60; either way the MX Keys S shows the lower price [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical].

Launch prices tell a similar story. Windows Central, PCWorld and Tom's Guide quoted $109 to $109.99 for the MX Keys S [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s][@pcworld-logitech-mx-keys-s][@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s], and Trusted Reviews and How-To Geek quoted $169.99 for the MX Mechanical [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical]. That is a $60 gap at launch.

Neither board escapes price criticism. Tom's Guide says at $170 the MX Mechanical "seems at least $20 more expensive than it ought to be" [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical], and calls the MX Keys S expensive too, suggesting buyers wait for a sale [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Trusted Reviews flags both as expensive in its pros-and-cons lists [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s][@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: MX Keys S**, on both the current Logitech prices and the launch prices.

## Which lasts longer on a charge?

Logitech's own ratings favor the MX Mechanical. It lists 10 months with the backlight off and 15 days with it on [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs]. For the MX Keys S it lists five months with the backlight off, and its table gives roughly 6 to 10 days with the backlight on, depending on room light [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs]. The backlight-on figures use different conditions on the two pages, so they are indicative, not a clean match.

Reviewer experience varies widely. On the MX Keys S, PCWorld did not need to recharge during two weeks of testing [@pcworld-logitech-mx-keys-s], while Tom's Guide used it for about 40 hours at full backlight and found the battery at 45% [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s]. On the MX Mechanical, Trusted Reviews needed no recharge while writing its review [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical], SlashGear got 15 to 20 days of daily use [@slashgear-logitech-mx-mechanical], and Reviewed saw 8 to 9 days of mixed work and gaming [@reviewed-logitech-mx-mechanical]. PCWorld lists the MX Mechanical's battery as only average [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Backlight use and daily hours differ in each test, so these results cannot be lined up against each other.

**Verdict: MX Mechanical on manufacturer ratings**, with the caveat that reviewer results overlap and no outlet compared the two.

## Which is heavier and easier to adjust?

Logitech lists 810 g for the MX Keys S without its palm rest and 828 g for the MX Mechanical [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs]. That 18 g difference is small. Heft is criticized on the MX Keys S: Windows Central and How-To Geek call it heavy, and TechGearLab weighed 808 g and calls it the heaviest non-mechanical board in its group [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-keys-s][@techgearlab-logitech-mx-keys-s]. For the MX Mechanical, PCWorld says it is lighter than other mechanical keyboards it has tested [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Those statements use different reference groups, so they do not say which of these two is heavier.

Tilt is a clearer difference. Laptop Mag reports fold-out feet on the MX Mechanical that add eight degrees of tilt [@laptopmag-logitech-mx-mechanical]. How-To Geek, Windows Central and PCWorld each note that the MX Keys S has no height adjustment [@howtogeek-logitech-mx-keys-s][@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s][@pcworld-logitech-mx-keys-s].

**Verdict: tie on weight, MX Mechanical on adjustability.**

## What about wrist support?

Neither board ships with a wrist rest. Windows Central and Digital Camera World note that the MX Keys S palm rest is a separate purchase [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s][@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s], and Digital Camera World says the rest helps for heavy typing [@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Tom's Guide notes that the MX Mechanical comes without one [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical]. PCWorld says the MX Mechanical's keys are tall enough that a wrist rest is needed, and Tom's Hardware lists that it will not work with standard wrist rests [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical][@tomshardware-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: the sources do not settle it.** They describe a gap in the box for both, and none compares which board needs the rest more.

## Software, connectivity and compatibility

On paper this is a tie. Both list Logi Bolt and Bluetooth Low Energy, both pair with three devices, and both support Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS and Android [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs][@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Logi Options+ runs only on Windows and macOS for both: Tom's Guide says so for the MX Keys S, and Reviewed for the MX Mechanical [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s][@reviewed-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Tom's Guide says the MX Mechanical cannot be used in a wired USB mode [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical]. RTINGS lists the Mac variant of the MX Keys S as Bluetooth only, with no receiver [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s].

Remapping is harder to compare. Windows Central says Logi Options+ can remap every function key on the MX Keys S, and Digital Camera World counts 17 customizable keys [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s][@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. For the MX Mechanical, Tom's Guide counts 23 remappable keys, and How-To Geek and Reviewed each count 24 [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-mechanical][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical][@reviewed-logitech-mx-mechanical]. No outlet counts both keyboards by one method. Trusted Reviews says the software sets the MX Keys S apart, and also finds the MX Mechanical's software light for the price, but those are separate reviews [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s][@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: tie on connectivity and compatibility; the sources do not settle software.**

## Backlighting

Both use a white backlight. Windows Central says the MX Keys S uses a proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor to set brightness automatically [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s]. PCWorld says the MX Mechanical's backlight has seven levels, dims after about 30 seconds and wakes with a presence sensor [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Opinions on quality diverge within each product: Tom's Guide calls the MX Keys S backlight dim and limited, while Digital Camera World calls it suitably bright [@tomsguide-logitech-mx-keys-s][@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Console Creatures lists excellent backlighting for the MX Mechanical, and SlashGear calls its automatic backlight finicky [@consolecreatures-logitech-mx-mechanical][@slashgear-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: the sources do not settle it.**

## Is either a good gaming keyboard?

Gaming draws reservations on both boards. Windows Central would not pick the MX Keys S first for gaming because of short key travel and average 2.4 GHz wireless performance [@windowscentral-logitech-mx-keys-s]. For the MX Mechanical, Reviewed measured about 13 to 16 ms of input latency and calls it too high for competitive play, and Trusted Reviews says it has high latency and is a poor gaming value at its price [@reviewed-logitech-mx-mechanical][@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Laptop Mag disagrees, calling the MX Mechanical good for work and play after a single Halo Infinite test [@laptopmag-logitech-mx-mechanical]. The latency figure comes from the MX Mechanical review at Reviewed [@reviewed-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Verdict: the sources do not settle it.**

## Which one to buy

No overall winner emerges, because the dimension results split: the MX Keys S wins on quietness and price, the MX Mechanical wins on rated battery life and adjustability, typing feel leans only slightly to the MX Mechanical on a single Trusted Reviews comparison, and the sources leave wrist support, software, backlight and gaming unresolved.

Choose the Logitech MX Keys S if you type in a shared or quiet space, want the lower price, and are happy with a scissor feel. PCWorld calls it "one of the best non-mechanical keyboards on the market" [@pcworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Choose the Logitech MX Mechanical if you specifically want low-profile mechanical switches, with a choice of clicky, tactile or linear, and the longer rated battery life, and can accept the higher price and the noise complaints some reviewers raised [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs][@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical]. Anyone choosing mainly for typing feel should weigh that Trusted Reviews calls the MX Keys S less precise and sharp than the MX Mechanical [@trustedreviews-logitech-mx-keys-s], yet the MX Mechanical's own reviews split: How-To Geek lists switch feel as a con, while Laptop Mag lists the switches as a pro [@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical][@laptopmag-logitech-mx-mechanical].

## Questions

**Is the Logitech MX Mechanical louder than the MX Keys S?**

RTINGS says the MX Keys S has tactile scissor switches that are quieter than the MX Mechanical's mechanical switches [@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s]. PCWorld separately calls the MX Mechanical very noisy despite its Quiet switches and blames the chassis [@pcworld-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Which has the longer battery life, the MX Keys S or the MX Mechanical?**

On Logitech's ratings the MX Mechanical lasts longer: 10 months with the backlight off and 15 days with it on, against five months with the backlight off for the MX Keys S [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs][@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs]. Logitech's MX Keys S table gives roughly 6 to 10 days with the backlight on, depending on room light [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs].

**How much more does the MX Mechanical cost than the MX Keys S?**

Logitech's US pages as of October 25, 2026 showed $129.99 for the MX Keys S and $179.99 for the MX Mechanical, a gap of $50 on those figures, or $60 against the $119.99 also shown for the MX Keys S; the pages do not say which figures are list prices [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical]. The MX Mechanical page showed a $149.99 to $179.99 range without saying which variant carries which price [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical].

**Do the MX Keys S and MX Mechanical both pair with three devices?**

Yes. Logitech says the MX Mechanical's Easy-Switch connects up to three devices [@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical], and Digital Camera World lists three remembered devices for the MX Keys S [@digitalcameraworld-logitech-mx-keys-s]. Both use Bluetooth Low Energy and a Logi Bolt receiver [@logitech-logitech-mx-keys-s-specs][@logitech-logitech-mx-mechanical-specs].

**Can you swap the switches on the MX Keys S or the MX Mechanical?**

Neither is hot-swappable. TechGearLab and RTINGS list the MX Keys S as not hot-swappable, and How-To Geek lists the MX Mechanical the same way [@techgearlab-logitech-mx-keys-s][@rtings-logitech-mx-keys-s][@howtogeek-logitech-mx-mechanical].
