Picks are the best of the 5 products we surveyed, not of the whole market. Scores summarise each product's own reviews and are not a head-to-head result. How the score works.
Quick picks
These awards cover only the 5 automatic coffee machines surveyed for this guide, not the whole market. Each pairs a buyer profile with the published reviews behind it, and the trade-off for each pick is in its section below.
- Best for milk drinks among the models we surveyed: Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701. Tom’s Guide describes glossy microfoam from its automatic mode 1, and Homes & Gardens found some latte art still possible with the jug 2. Survey: Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701.
- Best for espresso purists among the models we surveyed: Breville Oracle Jet. Espresso quality is the most consistent praise in its reviews 34. Survey: Breville Oracle Jet.
- Best for easy cleaning among the models we surveyed: Philips 3200 Series LatteGo. Home Grounds calls it the easiest to clean 5, and Tom’s Guide liked its narrow footprint for a small counter 6. Survey: Philips 3200 Series LatteGo.
- Best for a tight budget among the models we surveyed: De’Longhi Magnifica Evo. Four outlets praise its value or price, though the Ninja sits at the same street price and the pick rests on how the De’Longhi’s reviews are framed, not on a cost gap (see its section) 78910. Survey: De’Longhi Magnifica Evo.
The Jura E8 received no award and is covered under Also considered. The consensus scores are not a head-to-head result.
Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701: best for milk drinks among the models we surveyed
The Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701 has the broadest evidence base of the five: its consensus score rests on six rated reviews, while the other four products rest on three or four 1112121314.
The milk system is why it takes this award. Tom’s Guide describes glossy microfoam from the automatic mode and lists cold milk frothing and an XL jug that makes two lattes at once 1. Homes & Gardens found some latte art still possible with the jug 2, and Trusted Reviews found that frothing plant milk with the machine beat its own by-hand results 12. Tom’s Coffee Corner calls the automatic frothing very good 15, Home Coffee Expert lists good automated milk 14, and Tech Advisor found the froth consistent 11. No outlet ranks this machine’s milk against the other four. The record simply differs by product. Craft Coffee Spot says the Philips LatteGo cannot make microfoam 16, Home Grounds says the Jura E8 reaches latte microfoam only with a steam wand 17, and the Oracle Jet’s automatic wand divides its reviewers, as the Breville section below shows.
Range and price help. Tech Advisor counts nine drink types in seven sizes 11, and SharkNinja’s US page showed $599.99, reduced from $749.99, on October 3, 2026 18.
The trade-off is consistency. Home Coffee Expert measured automatic milk temperature varying by up to 20°F between drinks 14. T3 says there is no milk-temperature control and that the froth took about 30 seconds longer than on its reviewer’s Sage machine 13. Manual steaming is hidden behind a button hold, according to Tom’s Coffee Corner 15, and Tom’s Guide’s reviewer struggled to steam by hand in the XL jug 1. The grind guidance called Barista Assist drew overrides from three reviewers: Tom’s Guide, Tech Advisor and T3 each changed its suggestions 11113. Tom’s Coffee Corner says it flushes about 4 oz of water per drink and that the drip tray fills after about five drinks 15.
Who should look elsewhere. Expert Reviews says espresso enthusiasts will find the lack of control frustrating 19, and CoffeeGeek calls it a bridge machine for people leaving pods rather than a machine for purists 20. Light-roast drinkers should note that Home Coffee Expert says it struggles with lighter roasts 14. Homes & Gardens calls it large and heavy 2, so measure the counter first.
Breville Oracle Jet: best for espresso purists among the models we surveyed
The Breville Oracle Jet is the pick for buyers who care most about the shot. Its consensus score rests on three sources, two expert reviews plus an owner aggregate of six ratings, so the confidence is low 32122.
Espresso quality is the most consistent theme. TechRadar lists exceptional espresso quality as its first pro 3, Tom’s Guide says the machine makes brilliant espresso 21, and Taste of Home lists exceptional espresso 4. Rolling Stone credits the sensors and automation with producing the same drink every time 23. For control, Craft Coffee Spot says the Jet offers a markedly better customization experience than super-automatics such as Jura’s, which concerns Jura machines in general rather than the E8 by name 24. Breville lists 45 grind settings 25, and Tom’s Coffee Corner reports a PID temperature range of 86 to 96 C 26.
The trade-offs are price, workflow and milk. Breville’s US launch price was $1,999.95 27, and Tom’s Coffee Corner gives it “a B+ for features, and a C- for value” 26. TechRadar, Tom’s Guide and Rolling Stone each list the inability to brew and steam at the same time as a con 32123. TechRadar adds that this can slow multi-drink sessions 3. Automatic milk is disputed. Tom’s Coffee Corner got no microfoam from Auto MilQ on whole, skim, oat or soy milk 26, Tom’s Guide got slightly better results steaming by hand 21, and TechRadar lists automatic milk frothing as a strength 3. The machine is also not fully hands-off: Rolling Stone notes the portafilter is moved by hand 23, and CHOICE classes it as semi-automatic 28.
Space and mess come up too. TechRadar says the Jet takes up quite a lot of space 3, and Taste of Home lists a large footprint and low clearance that rules out large mugs 4. Tom’s Guide calls grinding a bit messy 21. On durability, Taste of Home reports no noticeable decline after one to two shots a day since September 2024 4, while a single ProductReview.com.au owner calls it an extremely wet machine and says they are unlikely to buy another 22.
Who should look elsewhere. Anyone who wants hands-free milk should read the split above before paying this much. Buyers on a budget can read TechRadar’s cheaper alternatives, though it names the base Luxe Café rather than the Pro ES701 3. No source compares the Jet with the Pro directly.
Philips 3200 Series LatteGo: best for easy cleaning among the models we surveyed
The Philips 3200 Series LatteGo earns two profiles, easy cleaning and small kitchens. Its consensus score rests on four sources, one of them a retailer’s customer-rating aggregate 6291630.
On cleaning, Home Grounds calls it the easiest-to-clean automatic espresso machine, noting a pull-out brew group and a milk system made of two dishwasher-safe parts 5. Tom’s Guide lists easy to clean as a pro 6, and Craft Coffee Spot lists easy maintenance with removable parts and descaling only after about 5,000 cups 16. TechGadgetsCanada found it easy to clean and had to empty the grounds container every four to five days, against seven to ten for the reviewer’s Jura 31.
On size, Tom’s Guide liked the narrow footprint for a small counter 6, and Home Grounds lists it at 9.7 in wide 5. The size case is not clear-cut against the De’Longhi. CNN Underscored, in its De’Longhi review, calls the Philips more compact than the Magnifica Evo 32, but Expert Reviews lists the Magnifica Evo at 240 mm wide 7 and Home Coffee Expert calls it “pretty compact” at 9.5 inches wide 8. Home Grounds’ 9.7 in for the Philips is only a quarter inch or so wider 5, so on width alone the two are close. Homes & Gardens found the froth easy to produce and consistently thick 29.
The trade-off is the cup. Tom’s Guide lists weak coffee as a con and summarizes the result as “solid, if unspectacular coffee” 6. Craft Coffee Spot lists weak espresso shots 16. TechGadgetsCanada’s reviewer, by contrast, called the espresso excellent 31. Only Craft Coffee Spot offers a cause, saying the Philips pulls a shot in about 15 seconds against a typical 30 16; Home Grounds puts the extraction at about 20 seconds and saw no loss of flavor in the cup 5. None of these reviews settles why the results differ 61631. Noise is the second cost: Home Grounds lists it as very loud 5, Craft Coffee Spot lists the grinder and LatteGo as loud 16, and Homes & Gardens says the grinder and frother are not quiet 29.
Who should look elsewhere. Latte-art fans should look elsewhere, since Craft Coffee Spot and Brew Coffee Home both say the LatteGo cannot make microfoam 1633. Home Grounds lists no control over milk texture 5. Philips’ US store page shows 4.5 out of 5 across 667 customer ratings, covering the EP3241 and other Series 3200 listings, so it is a retailer figure rather than an expert verdict 30.
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo: best for a tight budget among the models we surveyed
The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo comes in carafe and steam-wand versions. TechRadar reviewed the steam-wand version, so part of its consensus score reflects a different configuration from the one this pick assumes 34. The score rests on three rated reviews at low confidence 358.
Value is the common thread. Expert Reviews says it “brews an almost perfect blend of value and convenience” 7. Home Coffee Expert lists great value for money and scores value 9 out of 10 8, Tom’s Coffee Corner lists an affordable price tag 9, and Coffeeness calls it comparatively affordable 10. De’Longhi’s US page showed $599.95, struck down from $899.95, on October 3, 2026 36. SharkNinja’s page showed $599.99 for the Ninja the same day 18, so the two sit about five cents apart and price alone does not separate them. The Ninja was listed at $749.99 before its reduction against the De’Longhi’s $899.95 1836, and Home Coffee Expert, the one outlet that scored value for both machines, gave the Ninja 9.5 out of 10 against the De’Longhi’s 9 148. So this award is not a finding that the De’Longhi costs less. It goes to the De’Longhi because four outlets praise its value or price 78910, and because the Ninja already holds the milk-drinks award and no product here wins more than one award. A buyer shopping on cost alone should treat the two as tied. The older quotes were higher: T3 names price, £529 or $800, as its only major negative 35.
Ease of use supports the budget case. CNN Underscored calls it “a perfect place to start and a solid investment” 32, and Reviewed says the tank, carafe and drip tray are dishwasher-safe with only a few removable parts 37. Tom’s Coffee Corner says it textures milk more creamily than the Philips LatteGo and makes better coffee drinks than Philips machines 9. CNN Underscored’s separate pick of the Philips as its best superautomatic is an overall choice, and it does not compare the two on milk texture 32.
The trade-off is plain coffee and flexibility. Reviewed found plain coffee from the Coffee button consistently weak even on the strongest setting 37, and CNN Underscored found an Americano at the strongest bean setting plainly weaker than wanted 32. Home Coffee Expert lists limited customization, no user profiles and a basic display 8. Expert Reviews lists noisy operation and says the carafe model cannot deliver hot milk on its own 7. Tom’s Coffee Corner says it doses at most about 10 g of coffee 9, and T3 calls the water tank not huge 35.
Who should look elsewhere. Reviewed points coffee snobs to the De’Longhi La Specialista Arte 37. Coffeeness calls the Magnifica Evo a great fully automatic machine for singles or couples and says its side-mounted carafe never works for two cups at the same time 10.
How we chose
DataDesign surveyed 5 automatic coffee machines on October 4, 2026: the Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701, Breville Oracle Jet, Philips 3200 Series LatteGo, De’Longhi Magnifica Evo and Jura E8. The survey drew on 50 source records covering published review pages, a retailer’s customer ratings and manufacturer pages. Each linked product survey lists its citations. This guide did not test any machine and makes no claim of first-hand use. The method is on the methodology page.
Each pick needs two things: a consensus score computed by code from the published ratings, and a fit to one of six buyer profiles (espresso purists, milk drinks, small kitchens, households, easy cleaning and budget). A product won at most one award, and the Philips took two profiles because its evidence supports both. No pick was made for households, because the surveys do not settle it. Ratings are recorded as the outlets published them, such as Tom’s Guide’s 4.5 out of 5 for the Oracle Jet 21.
Two limits apply. Each review usually covers a single machine, so praise for one product says nothing about another. Where this guide sets two machines side by side, each statement carries its own source, and where only one outlet compared two products it is named as the one making that comparison 32. Each consensus score is computed from its own product’s ratings, so the scores are not a head-to-head result. The Ninja’s score has high confidence on six sources, and the other four scores are low confidence on three or four 1438.
Also considered
Jura E8. It won no award, though its reviews are strong on coffee. T3 calls it narrowly the best bean-to-cup machine for most people who are not spending very heavily 39, and Home Grounds says it made the best coffee of any fully automatic machine its reviewer has tried 17. Coffee quality is not a buyer profile of its own, and the profile it comes closest to, espresso purists, carries a caveat: Top Ten Reviews lists “Lacks customization options for coffee purists” 40. Consensus score alone did not decide the awards either; each pick also had to fit a buyer profile. On cleaning, opinion is divided: Tom’s Guide lists it as easy to clean, while Home Coffee Expert describes daily flushing and disassembly of the milk system 4138. Tom’s Guide also says its milk texture cannot be adjusted 41. On price, Top Ten Reviews gives a US RRP of $2,499 for an earlier generation 40, and Tom’s Guide calls it overpriced in the US 41. The Tom’s Guide, T3, Home Grounds and Top Ten Reviews pieces appear to cover earlier E8 units, since none gives a numbered generation (Home Grounds says only “the latest” at the time of writing) 41391740, while Jura’s US page describes the fifth generation with 27 specialties 42. Home Coffee Expert warns that discounted units may be the older model 38. Check which generation a listing sells.
Questions buyers ask
- Which of the five machines is best for latte-style milk drinks?
- The Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701 is the milk-drinks pick among the five surveyed. Tom's Guide describes glossy microfoam from its automatic mode 1, and Homes & Gardens found some latte art still possible with the jug 2. For the Philips, Craft Coffee Spot says the LatteGo cannot make microfoam 16.
- Which of these machines costs the least?
- On October 3, 2026, De'Longhi's US page showed $599.95 for the Magnifica Evo ECAM29084SB 36 and SharkNinja's page showed $599.99 for the Ninja Luxe Café Pro ES701 18. Breville's US launch price for the Oracle Jet was $1,999.95 27. No source on file gives a price from that date for the other three.
- Which of these machines is easiest to clean?
- Home Grounds calls the Philips 3200 Series LatteGo the easiest-to-clean automatic espresso machine, citing a pull-out brew group and a two-part milk system 5. Jura E8 reviewers split: Tom's Guide lists it as easy to clean 41, while Home Coffee Expert calls its milk system fiddly 38.
- Are these machines fully hands-off?
- Not all of them. Rolling Stone says the Breville Oracle Jet's portafilter is still carried from the grinder to the group head by hand 23, and Tom's Coffee Corner lists the Ninja's proper portafilter as a pro 15. Philips lists five one-touch drinks 45 and De'Longhi's US page lists seven drinks for the Magnifica Evo 36.
- Do the one-touch machines let you change the milk texture?
- Reviewers say no for the models they covered. Tom's Guide says the Jura E8's milk texture can't be adjusted 41, Reviewed found no way to change the Magnifica Evo's 37, and Home Grounds says the Philips offers no control over it 5.
